Overview ->

MathType™ is a powerful interactive tool that will revolutionize the way you create print and Web-based documents that contain math. MathType works with any word processor, presentation program, page layout program, HTML-authoring tool and other types of software, to create equations for research papers, class materials, Web pages, slide presentations, journal articles and books.

What's New With MathType 6 -

  • MathType 6 enables the user to copy equations from existing TeX documents, and scientists who already know the TeX typesetting language can now type expressions directly into MathType.
  • MathType 6 now works with Wikipedia, the popular online encyclopedia that contains thousands of pages with mathematical equations. Users can do research on Wikipedia and copy relevant equations for use in their own work.
  • MathType equations can also be copied into Wikipedia's page editor to create new pages, or edit existing ones.
  • More Symbols, Templates, and Fonts -
    • More Fonts: MathType has hundreds more symbols and templates than Equation Editor. Beside our exclusive Euclid™ math fonts, you can also make use of the 1000's of math symbols in fonts already on your computer, as well as math fonts you can download from the Internet.
    • Find Symbols: MathType's Insert Symbol dialog allows you to explore the available symbols and insert them with a click or keystroke.
  • Works with Many Applications -
    • Many Applications: In addition to Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, use MathType to add equations to QuarkXPress and Adobe InDesign layouts, Excel spreadsheets, HTML pages, and many more applications and document types.
    • Works with Wikipedia:Wikipedia, the popular online encyclopedia, contains 1000's of pages with mathematical equations. Once you do your research on Wikipedia, you can copy the relevant equations for use in your own work. You can also use MathType to author new equations for Wikipedia.
    • Many Ways to Work: MathType can add equations to virtually any application that has an Insert Object command or into which you can paste or drag a graphic.
  • Two Ways to Create Equations
    • Point-and-Click Editing with Automatic Formatting: Equations can be created quickly by choosing templates from MathType's palettes and typing into their empty slots. MathType applies mathematical spacing rules automatically as you type.
    • Type TeX or LaTeX: If you already know the TeX typesetting language, you can enter equations quickly using MathType's TeX input mode. TeX editing can be mixed with point-and-click editing so you get the best of both worlds.
  • Saves Time
  • Save Expressions in the Toolbar: Drag frequently used equations and expressions to the MathType toolbar so they can be inserted later with just a click or a keystroke.>
    • Keyboard Shortcuts: MathType has customizable keyboard shortcuts for virtually every symbol, template, and command.>

    • Better Results>

Color: Coloring an equation can make it stand out. Use color to highlight part of an equation and focus your students' attention on it. Show what changed in each step of a multi-step procedure.>

        Windows System Requirements

        System Requirements
Mac System Requirements (For MathType 5):

MathType 3.7 for Macintosh runs on any Macintosh with System 7.1 or later and also includes a native Power Macintosh version. MathType has been tested with Mac OS 9 and no problems were found (bogus "compatibility" checkers notwithstanding). Requires a hard drive with at least 1.5 MB of free space and uses 1 MB RAM.

        MathType 6 for Windows:
        • Microsoft Windows Vista, XP, and 2000.

        • 10 MB free hard disk space.

        • MathType will run on any Windows computer. MathType is not RAM-intensive so listing its requirements is not necessary.

        • CD-ROM for installation (not required if product is downloaded via the Internet).

        • MathType does not require Microsoft Office or Microsoft Word. However, it adds a MathType ribbon to Word and PowerPoint 2007, and a MathType toolbar and menu to Word 2003, 2002 (XP) and 2000.

      • MathType Commands in Word: The MathType toolbar in Microsoft Word also gives quick access to commands to renumber equations on the fly, insert equation references, or convert a Word document to a web page, all while working in Word.>
      • Export Equations: Export all equations in a Word document as GIF or EPS image files for use with web page construction or desktop publishing applications such as Adobe InDesign and QuarkXPress.>
      • Insert Symbol Dialog: Lets you explore the many math symbols present in fonts you already have on your computer, fonts you can purchase, or fonts you download for free. You can insert them into your equations with a click or, if you plan to use the symbol often, you can assign a keyboard shortcut to it.>
      • Save Word documents as math-savvy web pages: MathType's new MathPage™ feature allows you to save a web page where, unlike Word's built-in "Save as Web Page" command, the equations actually look good. Choose to make your equation a GIF image or MathML, the W3C's XML standard for math.>
      • Customizable Keyboard Shortcuts: Work faster by assigning keystroke combinations to your favorite symbols and templates.>
      • Unlimited Undo/Redo: Everyone makes mistakes. Fix them faster by undoing your equation edits you started, if necessary.>
      • MathML 2.0 Support: MathType's MathML translators have been updated to the latest MathML Specification from the W3C.>
