It's a cause to pause .
Posted June 2, 2009 by rainey

All of us experience what is nearest and dearest
to our heart in our own way, our own place. Just hearing
the words porch swing, rocking chair, bubble bath or back rub
can stall a heartbeat just a bit and invoke a sigh.

It is cause to pause !

Life invites us to pause along the way and linger in it's simple
pleasures ~ sunrises, sunsets, kisses hello, hugs goodbye,
freshly baked bread, homemade pies, falling asleep to the sound of crickets,
whistling, hearing " I love you," saying "I love you," wishing on falling stars,
sleeping under an old quilt, hearing a toddler sing the ABC's, seeing red
cardinals against white snow, smelling cotton sheets fresh from a clothesline,
cozying up in flannel pajamas and warm slippers, eating a meal together as
a family, Jack Frost's artwork on a windowpane, sipping hot coffee, sleeping late,
finding a hand written note in the mail box, reading bedtime stories, saying night time
prayers, hearing the sound of the ocean as you drift into slumber, wearing old
blue jeans, having a new idea, sleeping with a clear conscience, hearing neighbors
holler hello from across the yard, taking a walk holding hands with your loved one,
seeing a pot of violets on the windowsill, hearing the laughter of a little child at play,
hearing the laughter of an elder recalling their youth.

Life is beckoning each of us. What are we waiting for ?
Find cause to pause today and every day.
Laugh aloud, play hard and love deeply along the way.

Don't overlook life's small joys while searching for the big ones.

One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live.

They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.

On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, 'How was the trip?'

'It was great, Dad.'

'Did you see how poor people live?' the father asked.

'Oh yeah,' said the son.

'So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?' asked the father

The son answered:

'I saw that we have one dog and they had four..

We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end..

We have imported lanterns in our garden and
they have the stars at night.

Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.

We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.

We have servants who serve us, but they serve others.

We buy our food, but they grow theirs.

We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them.'

The boy's father was speechless.

Then his son added , 'Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are.'

Isn't perspective a wonderful thing?

Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don't have.

Appreciate every single thing you have, especially your friends!

Power Wheel Chairs and Cell Phones

As if we didn't have enough warnings about driving while talking on cell phones, here's another: Don't use your cell phone while driving your electric wheel chair. It's not that cell phones will distract you from properly operating power wheel chairs (although they will). You regularly turn off your cell phones, PDAs, handheld games and other devices when flight attendants tell you to. Just as with aircraft, electric wheelchairs start acting up under the influence of cell phones. If you don't want to feel as though you're in a Stephen King novel with a possessed chair (especially if you name your wheelchair "Christine"), turn off the electric wheel chair when you want to call your buddy in Hong Kong. And tell him in Chinese to turn his off too.

Any portable electronic device can interfere with the power supply and guidance system in power wheel chairs—you remember basic science classes. If your chair stops and starts for no reason turn off that Blackberry or Game Boy immediately. If your cell phone is turned off and you still stop and start, you may be running low on power. Charge the battery on your electric wheel chair. After all, we can't blame cell phones for everything.
