Hello all, I am Rainey

I was born and raised in Connecticut, U.S.A. I was a victim of polio, but learned that "victim" is a definition, and must never become a state of mind.

I was stricken a week before my third birthday - a present to last a lifetime. I did well for myself and after many operations (nine), was able to walk with a long leg brace and crutches. My last few years have required me to make a major adjustment, as stress and abuse placed upon my shoulders from years of service as surrogate legs has finally confined me to a wheelchair. And, making this situation even more challenging are the many side effects of Post Polio Syndrome.

Life goes on though, and I will never let my disability define the woman I am. Amont the blessings I've received are my two loved and revered adopted daughters from India, my angels. They are my world and my life. Family and friends have been there for me, offering support and love. And new friends, and new love! I enjoy sports, and have a mad passion for soccer and football. My life's dream is to ice-skate some day!

The pace has slowed now, and I still smile, laugh out loud and love humor every day of my life. There's even more time to enjoy the "simple" things - a good sunset, a nice nature walk! (roll). Life has a lot of beauty to offer. We really should - literally - stop and smell the roses.

I have a disability. It does not have me. It never has and never will. People may not remember exactly what you did, or what you said - but they will always remember how you made them feel. Life is not measured by how many breaths we take but by how many moments take our breath away. Just because I am disabled, don't expect less of me. Despite the challenges we face, we can still make the most out of life.
