Apparently, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg feels that adding more wheelchair accessible taxis would, "inconvenience able-bodied passengers."

But he doesn't stop there. He also adds, "If you're in a wheelchair, it's really hard to go out in the street and hail down a cab and get the cab to pull over and get into [it],"

That's right, the mayor of the most populated city in the US actually said this. Does he not realize we come from all walks of life? We are taxpayers, war veterans, retirees, business owners, contributors to the arts, and innovators of science and technology.

We may not all be "able-bodied" but we are "able minded". Deserving of equal rights and equal access. We mustn't let his words go unpunished. If we do, then we prove that his words are true. I don't believe they are true. I know many of you agree. Please read the entire article and vote on their poll: http://nydn.us/okj9ki

Jane Klemmer, founder of Klemmer Educational Consulting, LLC, writes a detailed article about finding the right college for a student with a physical disability.

She delves in-depth, as to what services colleges are required by law, as compared to services needed for students with more progressive physical limitations. Services that go beyond the standard "ramps and full accessibility to all facilities and classrooms"... so accommodations can be flexible, better suiting the needs of the individual.

Plus, Jane offers tips on what steps to take, and the questions to ask the schools, when doing research. To read this article in its entirety (plus, notice how she mentions Disabled Online) visit:

Serious budget cuts have caused several groups, including low income individuals and people with disabilities to protest, in Oakland. Around 100 people gathered in front of the state building, to voice their frustrations. Many of these cuts are affecting organizations that provide care and assistance for the special needs community.

I hope these protests will lead to a positive outcome. The economy has put many of us in utterl turmoil. If you'd like to read more about this, here is the link:
